Welcome to Art at Thurgood Marshall High School. We are excited to be your art teachers for the 2017-18 school year. Your student may be taking one of the following courses:
High School Art 1 is a course that provides an introduction to art through a multi-media experience. Students will learn and apply the elements and principles of design to produce creative art projects that reflect their understanding of these concepts. This course is a foundation for all other courses and is recommended to students planning on taking multiple art courses.
High School Drawing II - IV or Painting 1 are courses were students will learn observation skills for drawing in line and value with an emphasis on composition. Students will also be taught how light and colors affect both the artist and viewer’s perception of a subject. Several media will be explored, including pencil, charcoal, crayon, pastel, pen and ink and watercolor. Subjects range from still life to the human figure to landscape. This course will challenge the student at any level of artistic ability.
Our philosophy as the teachers is to, provide the opportunity to learn and understand the elements and principles of design, provide the opportunity to have hands-on projects,
Provide the opportunity to try a variety of media and to provide the opportunity to be free and creative.
