The FBISD Matchbook! Reading Competition is designed to promote and foster a love of reading in students. Reading as a team, students who are strong readers model their love of reading to their peers and develop leadership and team building skills. Less enthusiastic readers are exposed to various types of reading and have an opportunity to read high quality books to encourage future book selection. Matchbook! motivates all students to find their perfect book match!
The competition book lists are comprised of award winning books selected by the Texas Library Association, American Library Association and a variety of other sources. The lists are balanced overall to provide student readers a wide selection of genres such as contemporary fiction, non-fiction, mystery, poetry and other more specifically themed books. During the contest, student teams respond to quotations from books or questions about theme, characters, setting or plot.
Even though we are not in school to participate in MatchBook! Club activities at this point, we want to encourage all FCMS students to read the 20 books on the 2020 Lone Star Award list to prepare for the 2021 MatchBook! Competition. It will either be in person or virtually online, depending on the Covid 19 situations in the spring of 2021.
