Welcome!

My name is Salma Yousef, and I am a 3rd grade ELAR/SS teacher at Mary Austin Holley Elementary!

This is my 5th year teaching in FBISD and 2nd year at Holley! Previously, I taught 4th grade at Mission Glen Elementary, as well as served as the 4th grade team leader, and sponsor of various clubs. I am a Mexican-Palestinian American woman, born and raised in Houston, TX, and have attended schools in FBISD my entire K-12 educational career. 

I received my B.S. in Teaching & Learning (2020) & my M. Ed. in Curriculum & Instruction - Social Education/Social Studies (2023) from University of Houston (go coogs!). I have my Texas Teacher Certification (EC-6) Generalist & ESL Supplemental Certification. I am GT certified and serving as MHE's Champion of Gifted Students for the 24-25 school year. I am also currently working towards my National Board Certification (Literacy: Early and Middle Childhood) with my FBISD cohort.

I am a passionate advocate for students & teachers alike, and my "why" consists of providing students with an educational experience that grows, represents and engages them. I am passionate about making my classroom as equitable and welcoming as possible for all my diverse learners, and empowering them to speak up against injustices and challenge inequitable systems and structures they interact with. 
I hope all my learners leave my classroom with a love for literacy, a better understanding of their social world and diverse perspectives on history, and the skills to critically think as they continue in their educational careers.
