Mrs. Donna Martin
Welcome to the Hunters Glen Library! I am Donna Martin, the Librarian at Hunters Glen. I have the best job in the WHOLE school, because, it involves kids AND books! Those are among my favorite things! Of course this includes my two boys, four grandchildren and husband. I love reading, traveling the East and West Coast, camping in State Parks in an RV, and visiting with friends and family. One of my most memorable camping trips was in Sacramento, California visiting the Pioneer Cabin Tree in Calaveras Big Trees State Park.
I’ve been a Librarian for 8 years. I taught for 12 years, in elementary, middle schools (English) and most recently, a Reading Interventionist with FBISD, and an Adjunct Professor with the University of Houston/Downtown campus. Having come from a family of educators, I always knew I wanted to teach. While working in the classroom, I discovered my passion for sharing a love of literature with children and decided to pursue my certification in Library & Informational Sciences. I truly feel blessed in my job at HGE every day!
Among my goals, I want to encourage the students, faculty, and community to utilize a variety of resources to meet academic needs and to provide an avenue for recreational reading. The intent is to develop skills that will encourage the students to be life-long readers.
The development of informational and study skills is fostered by instructing classes as well as working with students individually. A multimedia approach to research is taught utilizing a variety of resources such as the online catalog, online databases and resources, eBooks, printed books, magazines, periodicals, videos, and other forms of digital media.
The students are also encouraged to participate in various reading incentive programs that are promoted throughout the school year. The love of children's literature is also nurtured by the presentations of various authors and illustrators throughout the school year.
