• Brian Hairston currently serves as the Head Orchestra Director at David Crockett Middle School in Fort Bend ISD and as the Middle School Orchestra Facilitator for the district. In his facilitator role, he organizes district-wide events, coordinates middle school orchestra programs, and leads professional development for directors. His work ensures consistency and excellence across FBISD’s orchestra programs, supporting teachers and students alike.

    A native of Amarillo, Texas, Mr. Hairston attended Palo Duro High School, where his passion for music began to flourish. He continued his education at West Texas A\&M University, earning his degree in music education. While at WTAMU, he studied both violin and saxophone, developing a strong foundation in string and wind education that informs his versatile approach to teaching and conducting today.

    Mr. Hairston began his teaching career in 2013 at Lonnie B. Keller Middle School in Pasadena ISD. During his five-year tenure there, he focused on elevating musicianship and fostering growth within the program. Under his leadership, Keller Middle School’s orchestra achieved significant improvements in quality and performance standards, setting a strong foundation for future success.

    In 2018, Mr. Hairston accepted a position at A.C. New Middle School in Mesquite ISD. Over the next three years, he guided the orchestra to new heights, earning the program only its second-ever UIL Sweepstakes award. This achievement marked the beginning of a UIL success streak that continues to this day, a testament to his commitment to excellence and student achievement.

    In 2021, Mr. Hairston joined David Crockett Middle School, where he has continued his tradition of growth and success. Since his arrival, the orchestra program has nearly doubled in size and earned numerous accolades, including multiple UIL Sweepstakes awards and superior ratings at local festivals. His leadership has not only strengthened the program but also created a culture of pride and accomplishment among students.

    In addition to his clinic work, Mr. Hairston serves as a judge for UIL contests in the Houston area, bringing his experience and keen ear to evaluate and encourage student musicians. His contributions help maintain the high standards of excellence that UIL competitions represent.

    Mr. Hairston has also shared his knowledge on a larger stage, presenting at the Texas Orchestra Directors Association (TODA) conference for the past two years. His sessions have focused on practical strategies for program growth, student engagement, and building a culture of success in middle school orchestras. These presentations reflect his commitment to advancing music education and supporting fellow educators.

    When off the podium, Mr. Hairston enjoys lifting weights, playing video games and spending time with his beloved cat, Bertha. He is also a proud member of the Houston Pride Band, where he plays tenor saxophone, continuing his personal love for music performance.

  • Andrew Adams-Whitehead is the Assistant Orchestra Director at David Crockett Middle School in Fort Bend ISD. He joined the Crockett faculty in 2022 and is now in his fourth year of teaching. During his tenure, the orchestra program has grown significantly, and the Symphonic Orchestra, which he conducts, has earned UIL Sweepstakes awards each year under his leadership.

    Andrew grew up in Baytown, Texas, and attended Lee High School, where he played double bass with the band and served as the school mascot, Gary the Gander. His passion for music led him to study double bass at Lee College before transferring to the University of Houston, where he earned a Bachelor’s degree in Music Education.

    In addition to his teaching responsibilities, Andrew is an active performer and clinician. He regularly plays double bass with ensembles across the Houston area, including the Energy Corridor of Houston Orchestra (ECHO). He also serves as a judge and provides clinics for double bass students throughout the region, sharing his expertise and supporting the development of young musicians beyond his own classroom.

    Outside of music, Andrew enjoys creative hobbies and spending time with family. He is an avid Dungeon Master, designing and leading Dungeons & Dragons campaigns for friends and family. At home, he enjoys the company of his cat, Poppy, and his dog, Jasper, and values time with his wife, Paloma.
