Mission Glen Elementary opened its doors in 1986 as a neighborhood school to accommodate the growing number of families with school-age children in the Mission Bend area of Fort Bend ISD. We started out pretty small—with 2-3 classes on each grade level. Our modest beginning was challenged by the growth in the community and our enrollment grew to almost 900 students in 2006. Over the years the building has been upgraded to keep pace with instructional needs and technology, undergoing a total renovation in 2010.
Our multicultural student population reflects the diversity in our neighborhood and is celebrated through student programs, our multi-year “No Place for Hate” recognition and most importantly our everyday interactions with one another. We are proud that our students have embraced the positive character traits that are reviewed each day on our student-run morning news channel. Mission Glen has produced a number of students who have received Presidential Academic Achievement Awards from the White House and Presidential Fitness Awards. Many of our students have been awarded honors in the Fine Arts including membership in the Fort Bend ISD Honors Choir. We can even boast about one former student who is now an active player in the National Football League!
The Mission Glen community is well loved by the teachers and staff as evidenced by the longevity of numerous faculty members. Several of our most “seasoned” staff members have been loyal to the Mission Glen community for over twenty years and there have been only three school principals since the school opened! Despite the changing demands on teachers, ours have routinely gone above and beyond to stay true to our vision that we exist for the sole purpose of inspiring students to achieve at high levels and lead others to successfully contribute to a diverse society. To that end, we have many teachers who have written and been awarded grant money to acquire additional instructional materials and equipment. Fort Bend ISD Administrators selected one of our first-year teachers as a District Rookie Teacher of the Year! One of our proudest moments as a community of learners came in 2011 when Mission Glen was awarded the honor of being named a Title I Distinguished Performance School. This honor is awarded to Title I campuses for consistently demonstrating strong academic performance over a 3 year period. Our current distinction is closing the gap earned during the 2017-2018 school year.
Our theme is - Mission Possible where we make the impossible possible.. We understand our roles as educators and are committed to doing whatever it takes to help our students succeed. We are truly GATOR PROUD!
