Mrs. Julissa Gamez
I graduated from Texas A & M International University with a double major in Mathematics and Sociology. The study of mathematics assists students in their critical thinking and problem solving skills. I am currently teaching Pre-Calculus, Mathematical Models with Applications (MMA) and Algebraic Reasoning, but as department head, I also assist in Algebra 1, Algebra 2, Geometry, and Algebra 1 EOC prep. In Precalculus, students deepen their mathematical understanding and fluency with algebra and trigonometry and extend their ability to make connections and apply concepts and procedures at higher levels. In MMA, students will model and solve real-life problems involving money, data, chance, patterns, music, design, and science. Students will use a variety of representations, tools, and technology to link modeling techniques with mathematical concepts to solve applied problems. In Algebraic Reasoning, students will build on the knowledge and skills for mathematics in Kindergarten-Grade 8 and Algebra I, continue with the development of mathematical reasoning related to algebraic understandings and processes, and deepen a foundation for studies in subsequent mathematics courses. The classes are taught in an abridged, traditional manner with student-centered projects and problems that encourage cooperative learning. As a compacted-curriculum, credit-recovery program we provide our students an opportunity to graduate with their class. I truly enjoy having the opportunity to work with our students and enabling them to build their confidence when it comes to one of the least liked, but most important subject in school, math. My goal is that all my students will leave my class with a greater understanding and appreciation for mathematics.
