Hello, welcome to my teacher webpage. I am the SAILS teacher at Mission Glen ES. This webpage is being updated in light of recent COVID-19-related happenings regarding online learning. As for now, the platform we will be utilizing will be Schoology. The district has not set forth any official start dates yet, so we thank you for your patience.
I graduated from the University of Houston is 2008 with a Bachelor's Degree in Public Relations. Upon realizing this was NOT my calling, my deeply-held desire to work with children began to tap on my shoulder. I originally started my journey towards teaching in the field of Speech and Language Pathology and Deaf Education. I am actually a licensed Speech and Language Pathology Assistant (SLPA) as well. I spent six beloved years in my career as a SLPA, and then completed the requirements to begin my teaching internship at the end of those six years.
Fort Bend ISD's description of SAILS reads, "The Succeeding in Academic and Independent Living Skills (SAILS) class is a self-contained setting consisting of students with significant cognitive disabilities who require an educational program focusing on life skills such as personal care, pre-vocational activities, communication, functional academics and/or social skills." (https://www.fortbendisd.com/Page/666).
The very nature of my classroom allows me to teach not only communication and language skills, but to teach the whole child. I’m so honored to help my students grow and it is my desire to help them achieve their fullest potential.
