Scanlan Oaks officially opened its door for students during the 2004-2005 school year with its dedication on September 12, 2004

 

The Scanlan Oaks property was purchased by Thomas H. Scanlan in 1906. He was a former mayor of Houston and had 7 daughters. Fort Bend ISD purchased the property from the Scanlan sisters and thus the naming committee found it appropriate to name the school after this prominent family. The committee also loved the oak trees in the area thus the name of the school became Scanlan Oaks Elementary.
