I am thrilled to be a part of the talented and dedicated staff at Scanlan Oaks Elementary! This school year marks my 20th year with FBISD. After graduating from Southwest Texas State University, I taught at Commonwealth and Austin Parkway Elementary Schools. I served as the assistant principal at Scanlan Oaks Elementary School, as the principal at Armstrong Elementary School and Sugar Mill Elementary, and have recently returned to Scanlan Oaks.
On a personal note, I’ve been involved in “education” all of my life as several members of my family pursued careers in this noble profession as well. My late husband and I are the proud parents of Connor (7 years old) and Mackenzie (5 years old).

Things I like to do include, summer vacations with my children, dancing, entertaining family and friends, exercising, cooking, listening to music, praying, camping, playing volleyball and getting some quality rest. Ms. Gwendolen Chenier
My name is Gwendolen Chenier, and I am one of the dynamic administrators at Scanlan Oaks. I have been in education for over 20 years. My pathway includes teaching across multiple grade levels and disciplines. I have served as a Department Chair, Special Education Facilitator, Transition Specialist, Special Education Instructional Specialist, and administrator throughout my educational journey. While I have served education in various facets, my journey continues.
My driving force has always been teaching, learning, and growing teachers and students in every capacity. I believe all students can learn, and education has no boundaries or limits. Student success results from the ongoing intentional instruction and relentless collaboration of all stakeholders, so our work never stops.
One fun fact about me is that I am originally from Opelousas, Louisiana, where Tony Chachere’s Original Creole Seasoning and Billy's Boudin were born.
I look forward to collaborating and partnering with you and your child to equip and inspire them to higher heights.
