Hello Donald Leonetti Elementary Families and Community!

I am thrilled to introduce myself as the new principal of Leonetti Elementary School. It is a privilege to join such a vibrant and dedicated community, and I am eager to begin this journey with all of you.

To share a bit about myself, I completed my bachelor's degree in early childhood education and the University of Houston and later on completed my master's degree in educational leadership at St. Thomas University. I have had the joy of being in FBISD my entire career and have served in various positions from para-professional, classroom teacher, dyslexia teacher, literacy instructional coach, and teacher development coordinator to name a few. My most recent position was as an Elementary Assistant Principal for the last four years.

When I am away from work, I enjoy being a mom to two amazing sons and attending sporting events. As a family, we value traveling and making memories that will remain with us for years to come.

As principal of Leonetti Elementary, I am committed to building on the strong foundation already in place while continuing to prioritize a safe, inclusive, and inspiring learning environment. I believe in the power of collaboration and know that together—staff, families, and community—we can achieve great things for our students. I have always believed in the concept of working together as a team, and I am committed to helping each student achieve their very best and feel valued as a DLE Lion. Please feel free to reach out to our campus, at any time, should you have a concern or feedback for us. Together, we will continue to make Donald Leonetti Elementary “The Greatest Place to Be!”

Welcome Leonetti Lion Families! My name is Vanessa John, and I am proud to serve as your  Assistant Principal. This is my 24th year in Fort Bend ISD.

I was born and raised in the Rio Grande Valley in South Texas, where I grew up surrounded by citrus groves and strong family roots. I spent my early years in the Mission/McAllen area before moving to Sugar Land, which has been my family’s home ever since. I am a proud graduate of Kempner High School, the University of Houston–Downtown (B.S. in Interdisciplinary Studies with a minor in Psychology), and Lamar University (M.Ed. in Educational Administration).

My greatest joy is my family—I have a wonderful husband, a sweet daughter named Annabella, and a playful goldendoodle who keeps us all on our toes. I believe every student brings something special to our classroom, and I strive to create a space where all learners feel valued, challenged, and inspired. In my classroom, we are authors, leaders, deep thinkers, questioners, community-builders, and changemakers.

I am honored to be part of your child’s educational journey and can’t wait for the exciting year ahead!

I am honored to serve as one of the Assistant Principals at Leonetti Elementary, Home of the Lions. This is my 28th year in education, with 21 years proudly spent in Fort Bend ISD. Throughout my career, I have taught kindergarten through third grade and served as a Reading Recovery and ESL Support Teacher, Literacy Interventionist, and Literacy Instructional Coach.

I am deeply passionate about teaching and believe in empowering every student to recognize their potential, take ownership of their learning, and grow into confident, capable leaders. Just as importantly, I am committed to supporting our dedicated staff as we continue the work of creating engaging, meaningful learning experiences for all of our students.

Originally from New Orleans, Louisiana, with family roots in Belize, I bring a love of culture and community to my role. I am blessed with a supportive husband and two wonderful sons, both graduates of Fort Bend schools and now in college. Outside of school, I enjoy traveling, bowling, being active in my church, and celebrating holidays with family and friends.

I am grateful to be part of the Leonetti team and look forward to an amazing year of growth and success together!
