Welcome to Math and Science in Mr. Hodges’ Classroom!
This is my 16th year of teaching. I started my career teaching fourth-grade all subjects for four years in Killeen, Texas. Since moving to Richmond with my wife, I have spent the past 11 years teaching in Fort Bend ISD. This year will mark my 11th year at Cornerstone Elementary and 10th year teaching fifth-grade at this school.
I am a firm teacher with strong expectations for how my students should approach their learning. From day one, I work really hard to get my students to understand the importance of taking ownership and responsibility for their learning. The absolute greatest way for them to demonstrate this to me is by asking questions about the topics and strategies that they don’t quite understand. True learning begins with questions. I LOVE IT WHEN MY STUDENTS ASK QUESTIONS! I really enjoy teaching math and science. It gives me great pleasure to watch my students grow as young learners and individuals, especially when that growth includes successes that they have previously failed to achieve before spending a year with me.
I am a Wyoming boy that grew up playing baseball, fishing, and enjoying the great outdoors that surrounded me in my hometown of Casper, Wyoming. I graduated from the University of Wyoming with a Bachelor of Art in Elementary Education. I have an energetic set of boy/girl second-grade twins, Christian and Hayley, with my amazing wife, Sara, that also teaches elementary school. Many of you may know her sister, Katie Maybee. I do not drink coffee, so please, NO STARBUCKS or other coffee related products.
Have a great and prosperous 2019-20 school year!
