Hello! My name is Mary Owens, and I am excited to be teaching 2nd Grade English Language Arts (ELA) at Burton Elementary this year. I was born and raised in Houston, Texas, and I’m proud to be part of this amazing community. 

This is my 32nd year of teaching, and I continue to feel honored and energized by the opportunity to help young learners grow and succeed. I am a native Houstonian who attended Houston Independent School District.  I received my Bachelor's degree from Stephen F. Austin University.  I received my Master's degree from Nova Southeastern University where I was Summa Cum Laude.

I am a wife and proud mother of two wonderful only children.  My daughter Alexandria (26) and my son Ethan (14).  In my free time, I enjoy shopping, baking, crafting, going to the movies and traveling with my family.  Something special about me: I absolutely love all things purple! From classroom supplies to accessories, you’ll probably spot a splash of purple wherever I go.

I’m looking forward to a fantastic year of learning, laughter, and growth with my students!  My teaching motto is I believe every child can learn!  My goal is to excite and ignite every child’s fuse to learn!
