Degrees and Certifications:

Bachelor of Science Elementary Education Indiana University

Stephanie Alston

My life-long passion has been to teach! I started my career as a teacher’s aide in the school system in Indiana. From there my parents inspired me to pursue a degree in elementary education. I received a Bachelor of Science from Indiana University and then began my career of teaching as a first grade teacher at the Lawrence Township Schools in Indianapolis, Indiana. My experience at Skiles Test Elementary nurtured a love for teaching reading and writing.  Not long after, I married and moved to Texas. I began the next leg of my journey in Houston where I taught at Housman Elementary in Spring Branch ISD.  While there, I had the opportunity to write curriculum for language arts, present at conferences, and teach at the Reading Academy held during the summer. My husband and I then decided to start a family and we welcomed our son Thomas who is currently pursuing a career in writing. After moving to Sugarland, Texas, I began teaching at Dulles Elementary. Fort Bend School System has afforded me many opportunities as well. I was asked to train and certify as a Reading Recovery teacher and I taught in that capacity for many wonderful years. I am currently working as a support ESL teacher and I hope to continue to impact the lives of Children in this worthwhile endeavor.
