Military
The military can offer a challenging and rewarding career option for students wanting to serve their country. There are multiple ways to pursue a Military career.
Service Academies
A highly competitive educational institution which prepares candidates for service in the officer corps of the Army, the Navy, the Marines, Air Force, or Coast Guard, which normally provides education in a service environment. Academies cover all educational and living expenses in exchange for 5 years military service as an officer after graduation. Selection into the Academies often requires a congressional nomination, athletic ability, and high academic achievement.

Merchant MarineReserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC)
A college-based program for training commissioned officers of the United States armed forces. The ROTC does offer a scholarship that helps with educational expenses. Check university ROTC websites for details. Each military branch will have their own ROTC scholarship page (Navy, Army, Air Force)
enlistmentEnlisting in active duty of the military (Navy, Army, Air Force, Coast Guard, National Guard, or Marines) or in the reserves requires a commitment for 4-5 years. Visit your College and Career Center on your campus or speak to a representative of the military.
Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery - an exam given for those interested in military enlistment to show aptitudes for an individual. Scores determine what military jobs a student may be able to pursue. State law in Texas, requires the ASVAB to be administered on each high school campus at least once per year to interested students in grades 10-12.
