Welcome to 1st Grade!!

My name is Jenileese Winslett and I am very happy to have your child in my class this year. I love teaching and I am excited about starting the year with your child. It is going to be a year of learning and fun!  

Just a little about me.... This will be my first year teaching 1st grade at Mission Glen. I spent the last two years in 2nd grade, and the two before that in Kindergarten, so I know where the kids are, and where they are going. I was born in Washington state, but, as they say, got to Texas as quick as I could! My family moved to the Houston area when I was seven. I graduated high school from Austin High School, right here in Fort Bend ISD. I returned to Sugar Land to join the Fort Bend ISD team. 

I am the third child of six, and the only girl. That's right. I am right in the middle of five brothers. It's not all bad, though. Some of my brothers have started their families already, giving me three beautiful neices: Erica, Ithaca, and Amber; and four handsome nephews: Wyatt, Adam, Morgan, and Kaiden.

When I'm not teaching, I enjoy curling up with a good book and a mug of hot cocoa. I, sadly, could not tell you what my favorite book is, as there are just so many of them across so many genres! I will say, however, that I enjoy reading Fiction books more than Nonfiction. I also love painting, and can be found taking different classes to learn different techniques. I can also be found watching baseball games (Go 'Stros!), competitive figure skating, and Mystery/Crime shows. 

Reading and writing are some of my passions, and I hope to share that love with my students this year. My greatest goal as an educator is to create a safe, positive learning environment where all students can feel comfortable trying new things. I think this will serve to foster a love for learning that can only benefit children their whole lives through. To be fully successful in this, however, I believe it is important to keep communication open between us.
