Dr. Jonathan Sutton is the new principal of Briargate Elementary. His work in training and educating children spans two decades, ranging from behavior specialist, to teacher, to assistant principal, to his previous role as a principal in Galena Park ISD. His experience also includes work as a field supervisor/instructor for Lamar University and a professor at Belhaven University.
Sutton has a bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice and a master’s degree in Special Education from Jackson State University, and a Specialist in Education in Administration and Supervision, as well as a Doctorate in Educational Administration and Supervision from the University of Southern Mississippi.
My name is Michelle Colter and I am truly humbled and honored to have this opportunity to serve the students, parents, staff, and community here at Briargate Elementary.
I was born and raised in Austin, Texas, where I graduated from high school. I then moved to Houston, TX in 2006, where I attended the University of Houston - Main Campus where I received my Bachelor of Science degree in education. I also attended Stephen F. Austin University where I received my master’s degree in educational leadership.
I initiated my career as an educator in the Houston Independent School District, where I began as a substitute teacher and then moved into a teaching position after receiving my degree. Within that district, I also served as a Classroom Culture Specialist, Math Department Chair, Summer School Administrator, and a Data Driven Instruction Specialist. I then moved to Aldine Independent School District where I served as an Assistant Principal for a year.
I am a proud wife and mother to a rambunctious two-year-old boy. When I am not at work, I enjoy spending time with my family, listening to music, watching television, shopping, and traveling, and having fun.
I am strongly committed to the safety, well-being, and growth of ALL students, teachers, and staff of Briargate Elementary. I wholeheartedly believe that ALL children have the ability to reach their maximum potential and I will treat every child as if he or she is my very own, I will set expectations high, and settle for nothing less. I look forward to working alongside Dr. Sutton, the principal, and the Briargate community, this school year, and I pray for a fun-filled, successful year towards meeting our goals.
