• I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself! My name is Ms. LaTanya Adelakun and I am the new school counselor for Ridgegate Elementary School.

    I am so excited to be part of the Ridgegate family. I have heard such wonderful things about the school as well as the community. I feel extremely lucky to be part of it. I have an undeniable passion for school counseling and always knew this was my dream job. I received my Bachelors degree in Interdisciplinary Studies with a minor in education at Texas Southern University. I received my Master’s degree in Guidance and Counseling with a certificate in EC-12 school Counseling from Prairie View A&M University. I have a variety of experiences as a school counselor! I have 10 years experience in elementary school, 12 years in middle school counseling and 1 year as a high school counselor.  

    What I love most about elementary school counseling is a student’s ability to learn more about themselves. This is a great time for students to discover their interests and plan for the future. I am excited about meeting with students individually, in small groups, and in classrooms. As a School Counselor, my primary responsibility is to promote the academic, career, and social/emotional development of all students. It is important to me that I work closely as a team with parents/guardians, teachers, administration, and staff to ensure your students are receiving all the support they need to guide them through these crucial years.
