Ms. Monica Mangrum

WELCOME!

My name is Monica Mangrum, and I am a third grade Math and Science teacher here at Mary Austin Holley Elementary School.  This is my thirty-fifth year as a teacher.  I worked in the Houston Independent School District for thirty-three years, and then moved on to the Spring Independent School District for one year.  This is my first year working for the Fort Bend Independent School District, and I am very excited.  This new school year will be full of teaching and awesome learning!

I have a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education and a Master's Degree in Administration Mid-Level Management.  I also hold a  Texas Teacher Certificate in EC - 6.  I am originally from Dallas, Texas and moved to Houston right after college.

Teaching is a very important job and reminds me of being a gardener.  In the beginning, a gardener starts off with only seeds.  He or she plants them and gives them water and care.  After some time, the plant begins to grow.  With proper maintenance, the plant becomes taller and stronger.  In a way, a teacher is also a gardener.  She takes students at the beginning of the year and instills in them knowledge and life-long lessons.  As the school year goes on, she watches them grow and develop until they blossom with the knowledge and wisdom that she so carefully showered upon them.
