Afshi Charania was elected to Position No. 3 of the FBISD Board of Trustees in May 2025.

Afshi Charania, a longtime Fort Bend County resident and dedicated community servant, has assumed Position 3 on the Fort Bend ISD Board of Trustees. With over 35 years of deep roots in the Sugar Land area, she brings a wealth of experience in public school advocacy, public service, and business leadership to her new role.

A proud graduate of Clements High School, Afshi has remained actively involved in the Sugar Land community alongside her husband and son. Her longstanding commitment to service includes roles on the FBISD Facilities Steering Committee, the Fort Bend Education Foundation, the Fort Bend Chamber of Commerce, and her local Homeowners Association—where she served as Vice President. She has also volunteered as a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA), Neighborhood Block Captain, and community liaison, and has led numerous charitable efforts, including organizing the annual ABC13 Share Your Holidays Food Drive at the Ismaili Jamatkhana and Center since 2016.

Professionally, Afshi is President of a local energy company and has nearly 30 years of business experience. Her leadership has been recognized by the Houston West Chamber of Commerce with the “Young Entrepreneur Award” and by the U.S. Small Business Administration with the “Entrepreneurship Success Award of the Year.”

Afshi's service to the community also includes participation in several leadership development programs, including the Fort Bend Chamber Leadership Program, The George Foundation’s Non-Profit Leadership Program, Sugar Land 101, and the Sugar Land Police Department Citizens Police Academy. She has served on the FBISD Academic Advisory Committee and the Sugar Land Census Complete Committee, and has been a member representative in Collaborative Communities Interfaith Meetings.

As a mother to a Fort Bend ISD student and a longtime volunteer with Boy Scout Troop 38, Afshi is passionate about student success and family engagement. She holds a Bachelor’s in Business from the University of Texas at Austin and an MBA with Honors from the University of Houston.

Afshi believes that a quality education is the foundation for strong families and thriving communities. With a track record of leadership and a commitment to thoughtful, community-focused decision-making, she looks forward to serving Fort Bend ISD with integrity, collaboration, and a focus on student achievement.
