Fort Bend ISD Police Department Receives “Re-recognized Status” from the Texas Law Enforcement Recognition Program
The Fort Bend ISD Police Department is proud to announce the recent achievement and acknowledgment by the Texas Police Chiefs Association-Best Practices Recognition Program for their voluntary compliance of 170 best practices in law enforcement. These best practices were developed by law enforcement professionals to assist agencies in the efficient and effective delivery of service, the reduction of risk and the protection of individual’s rights. On November 16, 2020, the FBISD Police Department earned “Re-recognized Status” by the Recognition Committee.
The FBISD Police Department was originally recognized by the Texas Police Chiefs Association Law Enforcement Recognition Program in November of 2016.Police agencies recognized by the TPCA must undergo an on-site inspection every fourth year. The most recent acknowledgment marks the second successful on-site inspection by the FBISD Police Department.
The process to receive this recognition is extensive. To provide a standard of excellence throughout the District it honorably serves, the FBISD Police Department voluntarily conduct a critical self-review of their policies, procedures, facilities and operations. Upon completion of that review, an external audit was performed by a team of independent assessors, which consists of trained Police Chiefs from across the state. This evaluation covers all aspects of law enforcement operations including use of force, protection of citizen rights, vehicle pursuits, property and evidence management, and patrol and investigative operations of our policies. The result of this review is sent to the Texas Police Chiefs Association’s Recognition Committee for final analysis and decision to award “Re-recognized Status.”
The Fort Bend ISD Police Department would like to thank Investigator Allison Williams. Investigator Williams serves as the TPCA Program Manager and was instrumental in her role throughout this extensive process to ensure the department remained on track and complied with these best practices. Your important work holds us accountable so that we are able to better serve our entire community.
The FBISD Police Department is one of seven school district police departments in the state of Texas to be recognized by the Texas Police Chiefs Association. After going through this process for a second time, even fewer Districts have achieved “Re-recognized Status.” This is a remarkable recognition that distinguishes the FBISD Police Department in their commitment to incorporate these best practices to ensure a safe environment throughout the community.
