A safety reminder as we begin 2020
The recent shooting incident that occurred at Bellaire High School is a parent’s worst nightmare. Fort Bend ISD extends our deepest condolences to Houston ISD as they mourn the tragic loss of a Bellaire High School student. While our thoughts are with the staff, students and families impacted by this unfortunate incident, it is important for me to remind Fort Bend ISD parents of the safety measures we take at our campuses.
Fort Bend ISD officers are committed to the safety and security of all students and all threats are taken seriously. Any threat reported to law enforcement or an administrator goes through a Threat Assessment protocol and is resolved in a timely manner. We encourage students and parents to See Something, Share Something and report any suspicious behavior.
Additionally, the district has installed 44 emergency call boxes on various campuses and district facilities providing direct access to police in the event of an emergency. More than 7,300 RhinoWare floor-mounted door locks are in all classrooms that contain students across FBISD to keep any threat outside of the room. Our new elementary patrol provides a quick response to incidents and law enforcement visibility at our schools. Security vestibules are installed at all campuses and a new ID badging system has been implemented to identify students who do not belong on campus.
Please know that my goal in communicating this to you is not to alarm you, but to keep you informed of the security actions we have taken at the district, and keep the lines of communication open. For the latest updates and information, follow our Twitter accounts @ChiefDavidRider, and @FBISDPolice. Safe and secure schools is my top priority and it takes all of us to coming together to protect students.
