Travis High School’s Orchestra And Guitar Club Surprise Students With Holiday Performances

FORT BEND ISD (December 16, 2024) – Travis High School’s orchestra and guitar club surprised students by performing holiday songs during all lunch periods.

Each year, the Travis orchestra and guitar cub perform holiday songs at the Sugar Land Town Square. Due to bad weather, the winter concert was cancelled. Orchestra directors Mrs. Behrens and Mr. Niiler arranged for a surprise pop-up concert at all lunches to spread holiday joy and showcase the musicians’ hard work.

Along with the orchestra’s string instruments, the performances featured electric guitars, basses, drums, a keyboard, and an electric violin.

“Performing at lunch helped improve our performance habits ,” Travis High School junior and electric violinist Mitch Nguyen said.

For many orchestra students, playing with the guitar club at the winter concert is what they look forward to the most. They adjusted to an obstacle and had a blast performing for the entire school.

Travis High School sophomore and concertmaster Mikaela Guerrero said “seeing how excited the students were to see the orchestra perform at lunch was her favorite part of the surprise performance.”

“The cheering after every lunch was very cute!” she said.
