FBISD Students Win Prestigious High School Musical Theatre Award

FORT BEND ISD (May 20, 2026) – Three Fort Bend ISD high school musical theatre students were awarded a prestigious Tommy Tune Award, which celebrates excellence in high school musical theatre across the Houston area.

Marcella Hernandez-Rudes and Izabella Garcia received a Tommy Tune Award for their Costume Design on Clements High School’s production of Rodgers & Hammerstein’s The Sound of Music.

George Bush High School’s Brandon Lemus-Melendez received a Tommy Tune Award in the Scenic Design category for his work on Little Shop of Horrors. He was also a nominee for Outstanding Lead for his work as Seymour in the same production.

Each year, dozens of high schools submit their spring musical productions for evaluation by a panel of theatre professionals. Winners are selected based on outstanding achievement in performance, direction, choreography, design, and production.

Winners were announced at a Tony-Awards style ceremony at the Hobby Center for the Performing Arts last week.
