FBISD School Counselor Named Finalist for 2026 H-E-B Excellence in Education Award
FORT BEND ISD (April 1, 2026) – Sartartia Middle School’s seventh grade counselor Emily Wilcox is a finalist for the 2026 H-E-B Excellence in Education Awards, which awards cash prizes to educators who go the extra mile to serve their students and communities.
H-E-B representatives surprised Wilcox today at her campus and presented her with a $1,000 check. She also received a weekend stay at a hotel in Houston.
“On behalf of H-E-B, thank you for being the best counselor ever,” H-E-B Public Affairs Manager Martha Barrerra said.
As a finalist, Wilcox will compete statewide for a chance to win $10,000 and $15,000 for her school. Winners will be announced at an event in May.
“It is such an honor to be named a finalist for the H‑E‑B Excellence in Education Awards,” Wilcox said. “I truly love working in education and being a counselor. When you love what you do and the people you do it with, every day is a gift.”
Sartartia Middle School Principal Cholly Oglesby nominated Wilcox because she has helped shape a campus culture where students feel like they belong.
“Emily leads with heart, and you can feel that the moment you walk onto our campus,” Oglesby said. “She knows our kids—their stories, their struggles, and their strengths—and she works tirelessly to make sure every student feels seen, safe, and supported.”
