FBISD Educators Receive Top Honors at Suburban Houston Association of Bilingual Educators Awards

FORT BEND ISD (March 25, 2026) – Fort Bend ISD's Jones Elementary bilingual teacher Mayra Galan was named Bilingual Teacher of the Year (Gold) at the 2025–2026 Suburban Houston Association of Bilingual Educators (SHABE) Teacher of the Year Awards. She will advance to the Texas Association for Bilingual Education (TABE) state competition.

Fifty-three FBISD educators from 27 campuses were selected as nominees for this year’s SHABE awards.

The following FBISD educators were also recognized at the SHABE banquet:

  • LOTE Teacher of the Year (Gold) – Carolina Bolanos, Travis High School
  • LOTE Teacher of the Year (Bronze) – Nory Martinez, Austin High School
  • ESL Elementary Teacher of the Year (Bronze) – Chasity Cravens, Ridgemont Early Literacy Center
  • ESL Secondary Teacher of the Year (Silver) – Britney Williams-Markham, Sugar Land Middle School

(LOTE – Languages Other Than English; ESL – English as a Second Language)

SHABE also awarded its Undergraduate Academic Scholarship to two Fort Bend ISD students:

  • Amisha Parmar, Travis High School
  • Andrea Soukayem, Travis High School

The scholarship recognizes high school students enrolled in bilingual or ESL programs for their academic achievement.
