FBISD Employee Changes Student’s Path Through Mentorship
FORT BEND ISD (January 28, 2026) – Fort Bend ISD’s Director of Transportation Diana Mack-Henry is a dedicated mentor in the district’s UPLIFT Mentor Program.
Mack-Henry first met Chazlynn at Hunter’s Glen Elementary during the 2023–24 school year.
“I remember she was very quiet and reserved, not knowing what to expect,” she said about their first meeting. “We did an icebreaker and found out we both loved the beach and pizza.”
When the district expanded the program to middle school in 2024–25, Mack-Henry continued mentoring her student during that important transition, providing consistency and encouragement.
“Having the opportunity to work with the same student helps build trust and develop a bond,” she said. “It provides continuity on expectations with academics, setting S.M.A.R.T. goals, managing time effectively, and planning for college and the future.”
Mack-Henry has watched her mentee grow into a motivated and successful student.
“She’s more self-confident and studious now,” she said. “She communicates positively with staff and peers. She’s smart and talented, and not afraid to show it.”
Mack-Henry says her commitment to mentoring comes from a desire to serve others and pay it forward.
“Mentorship creates a space where others feel heard and valued,” she said. “Knowing you’re making a positive impact on someone’s life is incredibly gratifying. By showing up and giving back, you can help change someone’s trajectory.”
As FBISD recognizes Mentoring Month this January, Mack-Henry encourages more staff members to take part.
“It’s a humble and selfless experience that allows you to give,” she said. “Being a mentor is truly one of the things that makes it a WIN to work in Fort Bend ISD.”
