FBISD Sleigh Program Spreads Holiday Cheer Across the District

FORT BEND ISD (December 19, 2025) – Fort Bend ISD (FBISD) Social Workers partnered with campus counselors and student clubs across the district to spread joy through the Sleigh Program, a districtwide effort supporting families in need during the holidays.

Student clubs adopted families and provided gifts to help ensure children and families felt supported and cared for during the holiday season.

Retired U.S. history teacher and coach Jan Robertson initiated the program in her previous school district and continued the tradition when she joined FBISD after seeing families in need.

“I called it the Bush Holiday Sleigh,” Robertson said. “It started out initially with families from Bush.”

FBISD Social Workers Lynette Damra and Roberta Siddiqui expanded the program with the goal of having more families adopted throughout the district and creating additional opportunities for students and families to serve others in their community.

“What started 20 years ago at Bush High School with Coach Robertson and her students supporting just four families has grown into a districtwide tradition of compassion,” Lead Social Worker Lynette Damra said. “Now led by the Social Worker Holiday Committee, the Sleigh Program supported 119 families this year. It is a powerful reminder that when a community leads with heart, small acts of kindness can grow into a lasting impact.”

Many of the families served are supported through the McKinney-Vento program, which assists students experiencing homelessness, as well as families facing significant financial challenges.
