FBISD Students Participate in “Hour of Code” During Computer Science Education Week
Fort Bend ISD (December 10, 2025) – Fort Bend ISD (FBISD) students participated in “Hour of Code,” a global initiative held each December during Computer Science Education Week that introduces learners of all ages to the basics of computer science through fun coding activities.
The goal of Hour of Code is to provide students with at least one hour of coding and allow them to experience the creativity, critical thinking and problem-solving involved in computer science.
All FBISD campuses were invited to participate, with teachers and librarians using resources provided in The F.O.R.T., the districtwide Schoology hub. Each grade level received a unique set of learning experiences aligned to specific coding challenges.
At Lexington Creek Elementary, students explored coding through Minecraft Education, choosing between two downloadable Minecraft worlds, each designed with its own objectives and guided pathways.
At Sartartia Middle School, students participated in various coding challenges, including programming LEGO robots.
“Hour of Code truly gives students a chance to level up,” FBISD Technology Applications Coordinator Andres Chavez said. “By engaging in these hands-on learning experiences, students strengthen their problem-solving skills and build confidence in navigating an increasingly digital world. We’re not just teaching code - we’re preparing them for the future.”
