Important Update: Long-Range Boundary Planning
March 10, 2026
Dear Fort Bend ISD Parents, Staff and Community Members,
Last night, the Fort Bend ISD Board of Trustees approved key components of the district’s Long-Range Boundary Planning (LRBP) process. Nearly a year ago, we launched this process, which included community engagement, data analysis, and careful consideration of enrollment trends across the district.
The FBISD Board of Trustees' approvals include:
- Closure/consolidation of seven elementary schools
- Austin Parkway Elementary
- Dulles Elementary
- Fleming Elementary
- Glover Elementary
- Mission West Elementary
- Ridgegate Elementary
- Sugar Mill Elementary
- Implementation of districtwide elementary attendance boundary changes, and
- Attendance boundaries for the opening of Amy Coleman Middle School
These decisions were not easy to make because they affect our students, our schools and our communities at a personal level.
Throughout this process, our focus has remained on doing what is best for students, both today and in the years ahead. By aligning our campuses with current enrollment trends, we can strengthen academic programs, maximize resources, and ensure every student has access to the high-quality learning opportunities they deserve
We want to express our thanks to the School Boundary Advisory Committee (SBAC) for their time and commitment to this process. The Board’s action reflects a commitment to making thoughtful decisions that position Fort Bend ISD for long-term stability and student success.
Our schools are at the heart of our communities, which is why decisions like this carry so much weight. The FBISD Board of Trustees approached this process with great care, listening to families, reviewing the data, and asking difficult questions. The Board action last night reflects our commitment to making thoughtful, forward-looking decisions that support students, staff, and the long-term health of our district.
In addition to the boundary changes and school consolidations, the Board approved the attendance boundaries for Amy Coleman Middle School, which will open for the 2026-27 academic year. The new campus will help balance enrollment across nearby middle schools while providing students with modern learning spaces designed to support collaboration, innovation, and academic excellence.
District leaders will begin working closely with affected campuses and families to support a smooth transition ahead of the 2026–27 school year. Additional information, including transition timelines and campus support plans, will be shared with families in the coming weeks.

Thank you for your continued engagement in Fort Bend ISD’s Long-Range Boundary Planning process.
As part of our ongoing commitment to transparency, the district has posted a Long-Range Boundary Planning Survey Dashboard that allows stakeholders to review results from the January 2026 district-wide survey related to proposed boundary plans and elementary school closures.
The dashboard provides a clear visualization of survey results, including:
- Levels of support
- Prioritization of Policy FC (Local) Decision Principles
- Primary advantages, concerns, and stakeholder identified supports
We encourage you to take time to review the dashboard and remain engaged as this multi-year planning process continues. Stakeholder input plays an important role as the district works to plan responsibly and support students and schools across FBISD.
Visit the dashboard at fortbendisd.com/attendanceboundaries.
Thank you for your continued partnership.

Fort Bend ISD today released its Long-Range Boundary Planning (LRBP) feedback survey, which offers an opportunity for all stakeholders to provide input on draft attendance boundary scenarios for elementary campuses, including proposed closures, and the opening of Amy Coleman Middle School. The survey is part of the district’s ongoing work to balance enrollment, responsibly use facilities, and establish long-term solutions that best support students, families, and the community. The survey is open now through 11:59 PM on Sunday, January 25, 2026. All staff and the primary parent/guardian in Skyward Q will receive an email link from the Fort Bend ISD Organizational Development Department. All other stakeholders can access the survey link on the district website.
“We know these conversations can be emotional because our schools are more than just buildings, they are places where relationships are built, traditions are formed, and children grow,” said Beth Martinez, Deputy Superintendent Chief of Staff at Fort Bend ISD. “That is why it is so important for us to listen. Every piece of feedback helps inform decisions that honor our community while ensuring we can serve students well, both today and for generations to come.”
While draft plans were previously presented to the Board of Trustees, no final decisions have been made, and community input remains a critical part of the Long-Range Boundary Planning process. Additional details and access to the survey are available at www.fortbendisd.com/attendanceboundaries.

Fort Bend ISD Parents, Staff and Community Members,
During a Special Called Board Meeting on Monday evening, Fort Bend ISD (FBISD) shared possible draft attendance boundary plans as part of the District’s ongoing Long-Range Boundary Planning process.
During the meeting, PASA, the district’s demographer, shared information about student enrollment projections across the state and in FBISD. PBK Architects provided updated information about the facility conditions at each campus. Zonda, the district’s boundary planner, shared information about the planning process and presented the draft boundary plans. The Board of Trustees and community members were presented with draft boundary plans that included the proposed closure/consolidations for seven elementary schools, boundary adjustments for elementary campuses district-wide, and the establishment of an attendance boundary for the opening of Amy Coleman Middle School. The proposed seven elementary campuses for closure/consolidation included in this phase of the process are:
- Austin Parkway Elementary
- Dulles Elementary
- Fleming Elementary
- Glover Elementary
- Mission West Elementary
- Ridgegate Elementary
- Sugar Mill Elementary
These are draft proposals only and are intended to explore ways to balance enrollment and improve the long-term utilization of district facilities. No decisions have been finalized.
“I want our community to clearly understand that what was shared tonight represents draft plans, not final decisions,” said FBISD Board President Kristin Tassin. “The School Boundary Advisory Committee, Administration, and the Board have devoted significant time and thoughtful discussion to these initial draft plans, always with one goal in mind, ensuring long-term success and stability for our students and schools.”
The purpose of sharing draft plans at this stage is to provide transparency and to ensure the community is able to understand the status of the work at this point. In January, proposed boundary scenarios will be posted for community review and feedback.
“Schools are truly the heartbeat of our neighborhoods, and we recognize how deeply our families, staff, and students care about them,” said Superintendent Marc Smith. “These conversations are not easy, but they are necessary. While many districts across the state are facing similar challenges, we are committed to navigating this process with care, integrity, and open communication, and to emerging as a model for how districts can address difficult decisions while keeping students at the center.”
Next Steps in the Planning Process
FBISD will continue engaging the community through early 2026 as the District works toward final recommendations. The anticipated timeline includes:
- January 2026
Proposed boundary scenarios will be released for public review and feedback.- February 2026
A Board Workshop will be held to review community feedback and discuss final recommendations, including potential closures/consolidations and other campuses whose attendance boundaries may be impacted.- March 2026
The Board of Trustees is expected to consider and take action on final attendance boundary scenarios. At this time, besides the attendance boundary for Amy Coleman Middle school, no other middle school or any high school attendance boundary changes are being considered as part of this phase of the Long-Range Boundary Planning process.
Fort Bend ISD remains committed to leading this work with Professionalism, Accountability, and Communication, ensuring decisions are guided by data, community input, and a focus on long-term student success.
Community members are encouraged to stay informed and participate in upcoming engagement opportunities by visiting the Long-Range Boundary Planning webpage at www.fortbendisd.com/attendanceboundaries.
