Travis High School Marine Corps JROTC Earns Naval Honor Designation

Fort Bend ISD (August 20, 2025) – For the first time in school history, Travis High School’s Marine Corps Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (MCJROTC) program has been named a Naval Honor School, placing the unit among the top-performing MCJROTC programs in the nation.

The prestigious designation, awarded by the U.S. Marine Corps, recognizes units that consistently meet or exceed standards in leadership, academics, discipline, physical fitness, community service and program management. Only a small percentage of MCJROTC programs nationwide earn this distinction each year.

This year, Travis High School is one of just seven schools recognized in the “Mega” category, which includes the largest schools by student population.

Senior Marine Instructor Major Frederick Hunt attributes the recognition as a reflection of the cadets’ hard work, dedication, teamwork and drive to represent Travis with distinction.

“They have set a new standard of excellence for William B. Travis High School, and I could not be prouder of their accomplishments both in and out of uniform,” he said. “This award is not just about our cadets, but about the families, staff and community that support them. This recognition belongs to all of Travis High School, because it takes everyone working together to achieve this level of excellence.”
