Aldridge Elementary Teachers Surprised With $20K Shopping Spree at Office Depot
Fort Bend ISD (August 11, 2025) – What was thought to be a scavenger hunt turned into an unforgettable surprise for Aldridge Elementary teachers. Thanks to a generous collaboration between the Fort Bend Education Foundation, Office Depot and Boise Paper, they received a $20,000 shopping spree for classroom and campus supplies - just in time for the first day of school.
Leaders and board members from the Fort Bend Education Foundation and Fort Bend ISD joined Office Depot staff to welcome and congratulate the Aldridge team as they arrived at the Sugar Land store and learned the exciting news.
“This is an amazing opportunity for us!” Principal Tara Garrett said. “We are eager to kick off the school year well-prepared to deliver high quality instruction and create a legacy of excellence as Aldridge Defenders.”
Fort Bend Education Foundation Executive Director Hillary Dunn credits strong partnerships with businesses like Boise Paper and Office Depot for helping impact every student in Fort Bend ISD.
“We appreciate everything you do,” Dunn said. “The heart of every classroom is a teacher, and they deserve to feel seen, valued and supported.”
The donation is part of Office Depot’s Start Proud!® initiative, which provides essential supplies and celebrates the incredible work of teachers.
“This is more than a back-to-school initiative,” Office Depot District Sales Manager Imari Jackson said. “It’s a heartfelt commitment to uplifting educators and students in underserved communities.”
In addition to the donation, there was a special giveaway from Hewlett-Packard, and Boise Paper Sales Leader Kevin Koertje gave cash prizes from his own pocket.
“You guys are the reason we are all here,” Koertje told the teachers. “You rock!”
FBISD Superintendent Dr. Marc Smith expressed his gratitude for the support.
“Thank you to Office Depot and Boise Paper for supporting Fort Bend ISD and public education,” he said. “It means a lot.”
