FBISD Saves Nearly $500K Through Energy Efficiency and Rebates
Fort Bend ISD (June 4, 2025) – Fort Bend ISD’s energy-saving efforts are paying off, thanks to its commitment to efficient energy management and successful participation in various rebate programs. During FBISD’s 6th Annual Pre-Summer Electric Usage Review, CenterPoint Energy presented the district with a $206,830 rebate check for its outstanding energy efficiency practices.
Also, participation in the Summer 2024 Demand Response program, which encourages reduced electricity use during peak hours, the district saved $287,500 in cost avoidance charges. That credit will be applied during the 2025-26 school year.
FBISD Energy Manager Adrian Carter shared that the district is involved in several other energy efficiency programs that reward schools for upgrading equipment and cutting energy use. Collectively, all these efforts earned the district nearly $500,000 in savings and incentives.
Carter credits district leadership for the department’s continued progress.
“Dr. Damian Viltz’s support has been instrumental in our success,” he said. “With his help, we’ve grown from two to eight employees, secured one of the best electricity rates in the Houston area and eliminated nearly $300,000 in annual penalties.”
The goal of FBISD’s Energy Management Department is to develop the district into a leading example of efficient and sustainable energy use. Learn more about FBISD’s Energy Plan.
