Kempner High School student selected for innovative college-preparedness program

Fort Bend ISD (May 13, 2025) – Kempner High School sophomore Samantha Acosta was selected to participate in the innovative college-preparedness Atlas Scholars program.

Program Coordinator Joshua Silberman delivered the news in a surprise visit to Acosta’s band class on Friday.

She is one of 12 students chosen from more than 300 applicants from school districts across the Houston area and the first student from her campus to ever be selected.

The three-year program prepares high-achieving high school students for success in college and careers with a focus on the energy and finance industries. It offers summer internships, year-round mentoring, college preparation support, industry field trips and opportunities to engage with executives from leading firms.

Her journey begins June 6 when she and her cohort meet with executives from Deloitte.
