FBISD ENCOURAGES FAMILIES TO APPLY FOR EMERGENCY BROADBAND BENEFIT (7/29/2021)

FORT BEND ISD (July 29, 2021) – Fort Bend ISD encourages families to apply for the Emergency Broadband Benefit, which provides discounts on at-home broadband internet service as well as computers and tablets.

 

The program can provide a discount of up to $50 a month for broadband service for eligible household, and a one-time discount of up to $100 for the purchase of a laptop, desktop computer or tablet. The program, created by the Federal Communications Commission, supports families during the COVID-19 pandemic.

 

Families can apply and find participating providers at GetEmergencyBroadband.org.

 

Households are eligible to participate if they meet one of the criteria listed below:

 

  • Approved to receive benefits through the Free and Reduced-priced school meal program
  • Participates in an assistance program (i.e. Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program; Medicaid; Supplemental Security Income; Federal Public Housing Assistance; and Veterans Pension and Survivors Benefit)
  • Has an income that is at or below 135% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines
  • Received a Federal Pell Grant during the current award year
  • Meets the eligibility criteria for a participating provider’s existing low-income or COVID-19 program
  • Meets Tribal eligibility (i.e. Bureau of Indian Affairs General Assistance; Tribal Head Start; Tribal Temporary Assistance for Needy Families; and Food Distribution Program on Indian Reservations)
  • Experienced a substantial loss of income due to job loss or furlough since February 29, 2020 and the household had a total income in 2020 at or below $99,000 for single income tax filers and $198,000 for joint income tax filers
