FBISD Board of Trustees elects new officers, welcomes new members (11/19/2020)

Retiring members recognized for their leadership and service

FORT BEND ISD (November 19, 2020) – At its November 16 Board Meeting, the Fort Bend ISD Board of Trustees elected its new officers, with Addie Heyliger serving as President, Dave Rosenthal as Vice President, and Grayle James as Secretary.

Following Dr. Dupre’s announcement of his pending resignation, the Board is expected to start the search process for a new superintendent at some point in the future.

“I am humbled that my fellow trustees have selected me to serve as Board President. In my new role, I thank Dr. Dupre for his many years of service as he contemplates the next chapter in his life,” said Heyliger. “I appreciate his consideration in giving the Board plenty of notice so we can process and plan our next steps; this truly speaks to his leadership.”

Retiring members Jason Burdine, Kristin Tassin and Allison Drew were also recognized for their years of dedicated service and strong leadership in supporting the District’s students and staff.

“I thank our departing trustees – Kristin Tassin, Jason Burdine and Allison Drew – for their service to the District. It has been my personal privilege to work alongside these dedicated and hardworking trustees,” said Heyliger. “They have helped the District achieve unprecedented success through their many sacrifices and contributions to our leadership team.”

Newly-elected members Angie Hanan (Position 1), Dr. Shirley Rose-Gilliam (Position 4) and Denetta Williams (Position 5) were sworn into office after being elected on November 3.

Heyliger expressed confidence that the District would choose the right leader after a comprehensive search.

“I also want to welcome our three new trustees to the Board. I look forward to working with them as we continue the District’s work and face the challenge of finding the District’s next superintendent," she said.

“We will soon begin planning a nationwide search. I am confident that we will find a leader who will join our Board in continuing our student-focused efforts to inspire and equip all students to pursue futures beyond what they can imagine.”

The next Board meeting will be held December 7, and community members are welcome to attend. Meetings may also be viewed online. Visit the FBISD Board of Trustees webpage to learn more.
