Fort Bend ISD Community members invited to apply to participate in the FBISD Board Leadership Academy (10/16/2020)

Online applications open through October 30

FORT BEND ISD (October 16, 2020) – As FBISD continues to support our students in a reimagined learning environment due to COVID-19, the 2020-21 Board Leadership Academy will be modified and will begin in the Spring during the 2021 legislative session.

Members of the Fort Bend ISD community who are interested in learning more about FBISD are invited to apply for the Fort Bend ISD Board Leadership Academy. The five-month long program provides participants with an opportunity to learn more about FBISD and get a behind-the-scenes look at the systems and processes utilized in the day-to-day operations of our award-winning District.

“We are excited to be able to continue the FBISD Board Leadership Academy and welcome a new cohort during this time,” said FBISD Board of Trustees President Jason Burdine. “This unique learning experience allows individuals to gain a better understanding of how a school board operates and works together to fulfill the District’s mission and ensure continued district growth and improvement.”

Between January and May, participants will attend a half-day opening retreat, and four evening training sessions on topics such as finance and budget; curriculum, teaching and learning; planning and accountability; legislative issues/advocacy; and collaborative communities. Plans are also underway for a future legislative engagement opportunity, with additional details to be shared as plans are finalized.

Participants will be required to attend one Board of Trustees Regular Board Meeting and one Agenda Review Workshop meeting of their choice.  Participants will also be required to attend the opening retreat and will only be able to miss one training session in order to graduate from the program.

To apply, community members should fill out an online form, available on the District’s website and this link. Applications will be accepted until October 30, and those who are selected will be notified via email on November 30. Tuition is $75 due upon notification of acceptance and scholarships are available for those who may need financial assistance.
