Fort Bend ISD students named 2020 College-sponsored National Merit Scholarship winners (6/3/2020)

FORT BEND ISD (June 3, 2020) – Ten Fort Bend ISD graduating seniors have been named 2020 College-sponsored National Merit Scholarship winners, as announced by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC) today. The FBISD scholars represent the more than 3,300 winners of scholarships financed by U.S. colleges and universities. They are a part of the distinguished group of about 7,600 high school seniors who will receive National Merit Scholarships for college undergraduate study worth over $30 million. Earlier this spring,  NMSC announced winners of corporate-sponsored Merit Scholarship awards and National Merit $2,500 Scholarships.

 

FBISD’s 2020 College-sponsored National Merit Scholarship winners include:

  • Kenneth E. Lee, Dulles High School, National Merit University of Texas at Dallas Scholarship
  • Gloria Gao Zadrafie, Elkins High School, National Merit Texas A&M University Scholarship
  • Anna Brooks, Travis High School, National Merit Texas A&M University Scholarship
  • Dawn Thanh Ho, Austin High School, National Merit Texas A&M University Scholarship
  • Jacob Louis, Elkins High School, National Merit University of Houston Scholarship
  • Kirthana Pisipati, Clements High School, National Merit University of Texas at Dallas Scholarship
  • Urhum Syed, Austin High School, National Merit University of Houston Scholarship
  • Tam N. Truong, Dulles High School, National Merit University of Houston Scholarship
  • Josephine Yau, Clements High School, National Merit University of Chicago Scholarship
  • Gregory F. Young, Clements High School, National Merit University of Texas at Dallas Scholarship

 

A total of 167 higher education institutions are underwriting Merit Scholarship awards this year through the National Merit Scholarship Program. Sponsor colleges and universities include 92 private and 75 public institutions located in 43 states and the District of Columbia.

 

Officials of each sponsor college selected their scholarship winners from among the Finalists in the 2020 National Merit Scholarship Program who plan to attend their institution. These awards provide between $500 and $2,000 annually for up to four years of undergraduate study at the institution financing the scholarship. An additional group of scholars will be announced in July, bringing the total number of college-sponsored Merit Scholarship recipients in the 2020 competition to about 4,100.
