Congratulations to Fort Bend ISD’s 2020 Valedictorians and Salutatorians! (5/22/2020)

FORT BEND ISD (May 22, 2020) – Fort Bend ISD congratulates the 2020 valedictorians and salutatorians! These 22 scholars have the distinct honor of representing their graduating classes as the two highest-ranking seniors at their prospective schools. We are extremely proud to honor them for their outstanding academic achievements.

 

Our valedictorians and salutatorians join their graduating classes in being well prepared to take on future challenges. Despite the many obstacles we have faced as a nation due to the global pandemic, they have remained courageous, determined and focused on achieving their goals and finishing the school year strong. These accomplished scholars are equipped with a strong academic foundation and possess the character traits of FBISD’s Profile of a Graduate.

 

We proudly salute our FBISD 2020 valedictorians and salutatorians and wish them much success as they begin their next journey. Read their plans after high school and advice to fellow graduates.

 

FBISD’s 2020 valedictorians and salutatorians:

Austin High School

Valedictorian: Joshua Cheung

College/University/Military: University of Texas at Austin

Major: Mechanical Engineering

Career/Future Plans: to obtain an undergraduate degree in mechanical engineering, followed by a graduate degree of some variety

Advice: Try your best. Remember what is most important to you and avoid losing sight of your goals. Don’t take life too seriously and remember to have fun!

 

Salutatorian: Naveen Ali

College/University/Military: University of Texas at Austin

Major: Computer Science

Career/Future Plans: to conduct research on sublinear time algorithms at tech companies

Advice: Life is a collection of failures. The people that succeed are those who learn from these failures.

Bush High School

Valedictorian: Evan He

College/University/Military: University of Texas at Austin

Major: Biomedical Engineering

Career/Future Plans: to start my own company that solves the antibiotic resistance crisis from the world’s overreliance on antibiotics

Advice: Never lose an opportunity because you doubted yourself. Living life without regrets means committing wholeheartedly to the most challenging decisions. If you never test the boundaries of your limits, you will never be able to reach your full potential.

 

Salutatorian: Jada Dan Nguyen

College/University/Military: University of Texas at Austin

Major: Biology and/or Public Health while on a Pre-Med track

Career/Future Plans: to become a cardiologist and open my own clinic

Advice: Be prepared to adapt and learn to take experiences as lessons, a sign, or motivation.

Valedictorian: Siddharth Muppalla

Advice: Reality is built by your beliefs.

College/University/Military: Rice University

Major: Computer Science and Philosophy

Career/Future Plans: Graduate school research or business

Advice: Be fearless leaders and fight for solutions to the world we now handle.

Career/Future Plans: Entrepreneurship

Advice: Do more, and then some.

 

Salutatorian: Krish Singal

College/University/Military: University of Texas at Austin

Major: Honors computer science and mathematics (Turing Scholar)

Career/Future Plans: to innovate, discover and build a better tomorrow with the power of science

Advice: Live life with a mission and savor the adventure.

Valedictorian: Kaitlyn Nguyen

Career/Future Plans: to attend medical school and become a doctor

Advice: Take chances, make mistakes, and get messy!

 

Salutatorian: Jesica Joy

College/University/Military: University of Texas at Austin

Major: Biochemistry

Career/Future Plans: to attend medical school and perhaps work in emergency medicine

Advice: Work hard and never lose sight of what inspires and excites you. Find what you’re passionate about and follow it.

Hightower High School

Valedictorian: Isabella Gandara

College/University/Military: Massachusetts Institute of Technology

Major: Biological Engineering and Computer Science

Career/Future Plans: to pursue scientific research as a principal investigator in the field of computational biology

Advice: Look to other people for inspiration, but never try to imitate their success. Your life, your happiness, and your success should be uniquely your own.

 

Salutatorian: Snehal Anil Kumar

College/University/Military: University of Texas at Austin

Major: Biochemistry

Career/Future Plans: to attend medical school

Advice: Strive to be a lighthouse to the despairing ship captains of the world.

Valedictorian: Emily Nguyen

College/University/Military: Rice University

Major: Biological Sciences (Pre-Med)

Career/Future Plans: to attend medical school and become a physician

Advice: We have but one life. Let’s live it well and do some good along the way.

 

Salutatorian: Trish Nguyen-Thach

College/University/Military: University of Houston

Major: Biology 

Career/Future Plans: to become a dentist and possibly specialize in orthodontics or prosthodontics

Advice: With patience and persistence, we can achieve anything. We are the future and the change.

Valedictorian: Christian Wilson

Major: Arts and Entertainment Tech

Career/Future Plans: to be part of the entertainment sector as a director, screen writer, animator or working for Disney

Advice: Do not be stressed about the little things in life because if you are, you will not be able to enjoy the big things that are going to happen. Just handle your business and have fun while doing so.

 

Salutatorian: Mija Obey

College/University/Military: Sam Houston State University

Major: Forensic Chemistry

Career/Future Plans: to hopefully become a Forensic Scientist in more than one department and find my purpose in life

Career/Future Plans: to attend the University of Arizona Medical School for study of Orthopedic Surgery for the Spine

Advice: Successful careers take more than just skill or intelligence. You will hardly get anywhere with a bad attitude towards others.

Major: Business

Career/Future Plans: to attend law school

Advice: Set goals to push yourself. Pain is temporary, but quitting is forever.

Advice: Your efforts always matter. You may not see the results today or tomorrow, but success will undoubtedly be in your future. Never give up.

Career/Future Plans: to work as a creative director or an industrial designer

Advice: Believe in yourself and be curious.

Major: Biochemistry

Career/Future Plans: to become a perfusionist

Advice: You are capable of a lot, which you have proven by graduating amid a difficult time. Remember to hide from the procrastination monster.
