Fort Bend ISD mentors network and learn best practices at Superbowl of Sharing event (1/30/2020)
FORT BEND ISD (January 30, 2020) – Fort Bend ISD’s Collaborative Communities team hosted its annual Mentor Liaison Superbowl of Sharing Breakfast to bring Guiding Promising Students (GPS) mentors together to share best practices, successes and challenges of being a mentor. The event is held prior to the National Football League’s Super Bowl weekend and brings participants together for great conversation, fun games and breakfast treats.
This year’s guest speakers included Pastor David Sincere, Jr. of the Advocacy Now Institute, Fort Bend Education Foundation Vice President of Community Affairs Terri Wang, Pastor Larry Grant of Briarchase Missionary Baptist Church and Briargate Elementary Dyslexia teacher Kimberly Drakes. Mentors learned how to access available resources, engage mentees in icebreaker activities and connect with teachers to help open doors in working with students. They were also encouraged to support the 2020 Census.
Chief of Staff and Collaborative Communities Dr. Anthony Indelicato joined his team in welcoming guests and compared great schools to a winning football team.
“A great school is similar to a winning football team in that both require great talent, a great coach and great culture to be successful," said Indelicato. "We appreciate and applaud each of our mentors on helping our district build a great school culture for our students.”
If you are an adult interested in becoming an FBISD mentor, please contact the Collaborative Communities Department at (281) 634-1109 or email VIPS@fortbendisd.com.
