FBISD presents 2020 String Fling Concerts, February 5 and 6 (1/29/2020)
FORT BEND ISD (January 29, 2020) – Fort Bend ISD will present its 2020 String Fling Concerts, featuring more than 900 middle school beginning string orchestra students (approximately 450 each night), on February 5 and 6. Each concert takes place at 7 p.m. at Wheeler Field House (16403 Lexington Blvd., Sugar Land, 77479). Admission is free.
On Wednesday, February 5, the concertwill highlight students from Baines, Crockett, First Colony, Fort Settlement, Garcia, Missouri City and Sugar Land middle schools.
On Thursday, February 6, the concertwill feature students from Bowie, Dulles, Hodges Bend, Lake Olympia, Quail Valley, Sartartia and Thornton middle schools.
Guest artists will be Alexa Thomson and David Connor, community embedded musicians with the Houston Symphony Orchestra. Both have appeared as guest performers at the FBISD String Fling in previous years.
Thomson is a violist and a dual citizen of the United States and New Zealand. She has performed with the Silk Road Ensemble and Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra of New Zealand, and as a soloist with the Nelson Symphony and the Capitol Performing Arts Orchestra. She has a Master’s Degree from Rice University’s Shepherd School of Music. Connor, a double bassist, has completed two seasons with the New World Symphony in Miami Beach, Florida. He earned his Bachelor of Fine Arts at Carnegie Mellon University and his Masters of Music at Rice University’s Shepherd School of Music.
