On Tuesday, January 21, 2020 the FBISD Board of Trustees approved the 2020-21 Instructional Calendar.
Each year, Fort Bend ISD is committed to developing a comprehensive calendar that supports instruction and the needs of our students and teachers. Our teachers are at the heart of everything we do, and throughout the calendar development, providing necessary breaks (student and teacher holidays) throughout the year is prioritized.
More information about the calendar:
The adopted 2020-21 instructional calendar is nearly identical to the current 2019-20 calendar, with the same number of instructional days for students and the same 187-day contract for teachers. While it has a similar start date, it ends the school year for students and teachers prior to Memorial Day, which has been considered favorable by teachers and other members of the calendar development committee.
The earlier start date, prior to the state-mandated fourth Monday in August, allows for additional breaks throughout the year to support student and staff mental wellness. There is at least one holiday or professional learning day each month.
This start date provides for better balance in number of instructional days between the first and second semester.
The calendar includes opportunities for professional development with embedded planning throughout the school year. This provides time off for students and job-embedded professional learning and reflection time for teachers.
The calendar includes at least 840 additional instructional minutes to allow for a minimum of two bad weather days.
