Addie’s BookDay Celebration 2019 (10/7/2019)

FORT BEND ISD (October 7, 2019) – Community partners and District staff helped make today a special day for students at Armstrong Elementary as they took part in the second annual Addie’s BookDay celebration. The literacy event is the brainchild of FBISD Board Vice President Addie Heyliger, who thought of the idea last year as a way to celebrate her October birthday and love of reading.

Each year, guest readers visit the select campus to read to students and take part in fun activities. This year’s event featured classroom readers at all grade levels, movement activities to keep students active, Addie’s reading of The Hungry Caterpillar with a student re-enactment, and an activity with furry friends (including Scholastic’s Clifford the Big Red Dog, H-E-B Buddie, UnitedHealthcare’s Health-E-Hound, and Chainé from the Fort Bend Academy of Arts and Dance). The event also included a door-decorating contest, where three top classrooms and one grade level were named winners.

Trustee Heyliger and FBISD extends a special thank you to all of the event participants and sponsors, including UnitedHealthcare, Scholastic, Fort Bend County Libraries, FBISD’s Child Nutrition Department, H-E-B, Memorial Hermann, First United Methodist Church, and Armstrong Elementary staff and parent volunteers.

Following are a few photos from the event. View more photos on FBISD’s Facebook.
