Three Fort Bend ISD schools participate in 2019 Area UIL One-Act Play contests; two advance to regionals (4/10/2019)

FORT BEND ISD (April 10, 2019) – Students representing three Fort Bend ISD high schools – including Bush, Marshall and Ridge Point – participated in 2019 Area UIL One-Act Play contests on April 5 and earned top awards.

 

Participating in the area 6A contest at San Jacinto College-Central were:

  • Bush High School (BHS) – In the Blood, directed by Destynee Miller and Michael Debose
  • Ridge Point High School (RPHS) – Kholstomer-The Story of a Horse, directed by Brook Aurand, Andrew Russell and Alexandria Novia

 

The Bush and Ridge Point groups earned Advancing Awards and will compete at the regional 6A UIL One-Act Play contest on Saturday, April 13, at San Jacinto College-Central.

 

Participating in the area 5A contest at Lee College:

  • Marshall High School (MHS) – A Hatful of Rain, directed by Nancy Lynch

 

At the area contest, students from each of the three schools also earned individual awards in performance and technical theatre. Earning awards were:

  • Se’An Boatner, Best Actress, BHS (6A)
  • Reece Grover, All Star Cast, RPHS (6A)
  • Jonathan Hudson, All Star Cast, MHS (5A)
  • Anthony Duran, Overall Outstanding Technician Award, BHS (6A)
  • Ana Majano, Outstanding Technical Award, MHS (5A)
  • Nelson Nwachukw, Honorable Mention All Star Cast, BHS (6A)
  • Naomi Adams, Honorable Mention All Star Cast, BHS (6A)
  • James Cardwell, Honorable Mention All Star Cast, RPHS (6A)
  • Maddy Marlowe, Honorable Mention All Star Cast, RPHS (6A)
  • Jazmine Weathers, Honorable Mention All Star Cast, MHS (5A)
  • Bryce Mitchell, Honorable Mention All Star Cast, MHS (5A)

 

During the UIL One-Act Play contests, three schools advance from each level of competition until they reach the regional contests where only two schools advance to state.

 

Individuals are welcome to come and support our theatre students at the regional contest on Saturday, April 13 at San Jacinto College-Central. The competition begins at 12:30 p.m. with back-to-back performances. Admission is $10. For more information, visit the UIL website at www.uiltexas.org/theatre.
