Colony Bend Elementary students step up to collect and donate recyclables to be used for memorial for Santa Fe ISD (11/30/2018)

FORT BEND ISD (November 30, 2018) – Students at Colony Bend Elementary are bringing Fort Bend ISD’s Profile of a Graduate to life and showing what it truly means to be servant leaders, effective communicators and compassionate citizens through a service project they did in October.

Santa Fe Tribe Moms and the Santa Fe Strong Resiliency Center were collecting recyclables in order to create 10 memorial benches in honor of the victims of the Santa Fe school shooting, which happened last May. When the CBE Eagles heard of this, they stepped up.

Led by fourth-grade teachers Mrs. Hrar, Mrs. Nichols and Mrs. Moore, fourth-grade students at CBE worked to collect recyclables to donate. The students set up donation sites throughout the school, and they effectively communicated and encouraged their fellow peers and community members to recycle and deposit plastic lids and bottle caps at the designated areas on campus.

Through their efforts, the students were able to collect more than 17 pounds of plastic to contribute toward the memorial.

Way to go, Eagles!
