Quail Valley Middle School donates more than $800 to Candlelighters Childhood Cancer Family Alliance (11/9/2018)

FORT BEND ISD (November 9, 2018) – The Quail Valley Middle School “Raiders” presented a check for more than $800 to Candlelighters Childhood Cancer Family Alliance, following their fundraising efforts held during Pediatric Cancer Awareness Month. Candlelighters supports families of children with cancer by helping with their emotional, educational and practical needs (such as hospital parking, meals and groceries) while their child undergoes treatment. Principal Jeffrey Post joined QVMS team members in presenting the check to Kelsey Tarpinian of Candlelighters. In turn, Tarpinian presented QVMS with a plaque in recognition of the school’s generous donation.

In September, QVMS helped spread awareness of childhood cancer and its impact on families across the nation by taking part in various activities. The counseling team spearheaded a “Dress Your Principal in Gold” contest. The contest invited students to place donations in the golden bucket of the principal they wanted to see dressed in gold. Associate Principal Brandi Brooks won the contest and carried out her promise to the students by dressing, from head to toe, in gold attire. The school also held a raffle for Skeeters baseball tickets for QVMS families and staff. Also, to keep students in the spirit of giving, teachers decorated their classroom doors with “TurnItGold” themes.
