German Language Opportunity with the Spark Program

Dear Students, dear parents,

It's time for SPARK! 2022. The first session starts next Tuesday, October 18.

Q: What is SPARK, exactly?

A: SPARK for German’s mission is to foster…

  • engagement with German and the cultures of the German-speaking world in a student-friendly manner
  • collaboration between teachers and learners of German across K-12 and work with the community at large

Q: What can I expect?

A: We will meet on Tuesdays at 5:00pm on Teams for 5 Tuesdays.

High school students of German will deliver interactive lessons centering around a theme. Each week is stand-alone lesson, so if you can’t come every week, that’s ok!

You’ll have fun and learn more about the German language and the culture of the German-speaking world, igniting your interest to carry on learning German in high school and beyond.

There are no grades, but there will be many opportunities to interact, collaborate, play, and show what you’re learning!

Q: What should I know about Teams meetings?A: Please be in a quiet environment or using headphones with a microphone so that you can participate fully without lots of background noise! Please respect school rules of language and conduct—help us foster a fun, supportive, curious environment.

Q: Who are my contacts for questions?

A: While the course is student-led, the FBISD German teachers are here for any questions: Lauren Davis ( from Clements HS and Seth Hulse from Travis HS (
