Student Volunteer Opportunity: Pumpkin Patch 2023 (Posted 9.19.23)

It's time again for the Pumpkin Patch at Holy Cross.

My name is Larry Morton, Volunteer Coordinator for the Pumpkin Patch at Holy Cross. This is the fifteenth year for the Pumpkin Patch, and it is a great opportunity for students looking for Community Service Hours. The net proceeds from the Pumpkin Patch help to benefit various community outreach projects for those in need in Ft. Bend County and surrounding areas. Without the help of the many student volunteers our Pumpkin Patch would not be possible. The Pumpkin Patch will be held on the grounds of Holy Cross Episcopal Church in Sugar Land three weekends in October. We also need volunteers for the "Patch Setup", "Pumpkin Unloading" and "Patch Cleanup".

We are asking that all volunteers sign up in advance, go to www.holycrosschurch.com/volunteers and pick one or more of the available volunteer jobs. We have over 100 individual volunteer opportunities available each weekend during the Pumpkin Patch.

I'd like to request that volunteers make use of their organization's traditional forms for volunteer hour confirmation, or we can provide one. Some groups make use of a digital approval. We will have over 400 volunteers and request for approvals have been received almost a year after the event.

PATCH SETUP and PALLET DROP

DATE: Saturday, October 7, 2023

TIME: 9:00am - 12:30pm

Volunteers will move wooden pallets from storage, load onto trucks and place around the grounds to form the "PUMPKIN PATCH".

Pumpkins will be placed on the pallets. There may also be some minor patch setup, which may include sponsor banner setup, picnic table placement,

removal/setup of other Patch items from Storage, Children's Maze build. This event will take place "rain or shine". Volunteers should dress accordingly, as all activity is outside.

It is strongly suggested that volunteers wear closed toe shoes, such as sneakers or boots. You should bring work gloves to protect your hands as well as wearing a hat for sun protection. Water will be provided.

PUMPKIN UNLOADING

DATE: Sunday, October 8, 2023

TIME: 12:30pm-4:30pm

Volunteers will be unloading a tractor trailer filled with PUMPKINS for Pumpkin Patch 2023. The trailer will arrive at the church property the morning of October 8th.

The plan is to form human conveyor lines from the trailer to off-load the pumpkins onto wood pallets placed around the church property. This is a completely outside event and will happen "rain or shine". It is important for all volunteers to dress appropriately. It is strongly suggested that volunteers wear closed toe shoes, such as sneakers or boots. You should bring work gloves to protect your hands, as well as wearing a hat for sun protection.
