Elkins High School Student Surprised with Impact Scholarship to UT Austin
FORT BEND ISD (April 13, 2026) – Elkins High School student Asiya Sunesara was surprised with the Impact Scholarship to attend The University of Texas at Austin.
The Impact Scholarship awards high-potential incoming college students $48,000 to cover the cost of tuition - $12,000 per year over four years.
Unlike some scholarship programs, the Impact Scholarship does not require a separate application.
“Students are chosen to receive the award based on demonstrated leadership, proven academic success, perseverance, commitment to their schools and communities, and the information provided in their Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA),” UT Admissions Counselor Sara Achilles said.
Sunesara’s parents were present for the surprise and shared in the excitement. They said she had been offered a full-ride scholarship elsewhere, but Sunesara held on to hope for an opportunity to attend UT Austin, where she plans to major in mechanical engineering.
Visibly surprised and grateful, Sunesara said, “Thank you.”
