In May 2019, the FBISD Board of Trustees adopted a locally-developed social studies standard related to the local history associated with the Sugar Land 95 and convict leasing.

By adopting this local standard, the department of Teaching and Learning will be able to incorporate instruction related to the events, issues, and topics that are relevant to understanding the local history of Fort Bend County, Texas; including the Sugar Land 95 and the system of convict leasing. 

The local standard which states, " Students will understand how historians use information aquired from a variety of sources to interpret local history, while applying critical thinking skills" will be integrated into the appropriate history courses including 4th, 5th, 7th, 8th, and high school U.S. History.
